Where some see nothing but sand, I imagine a night sky filled with stars. Where some see emptiness, I see an open expanse painted by sand. I have very romantic feelings about the desert. But that is the beauty of the desert, as in love… it’s unyieldingly itself, deceptively beautiful, and faithfully alive in all its wanderings. Each particle has a role, each subtlety has a place in the grander and more artful whole - more than that, they have a way of cutting the excess and dealing with the exactitudes of life itself.Įven so, when we think of breath and being, our eyes fill with visions of teeming forests and crashing waves we rarely dream of desert lands and arid landscapes. ![]() The natural world is filled with intricate, awestruck wonders, and I believe with all of my heart that they are often the truest reflections of love: raw and burgeoning under the elements.
